In March 2025, one of the most accomplished mountaineer of his generation, Hervé Barmasse, completed the first complete enchainment and traverse of all the main peaks of the Gran Sasso d’Italia massif, alone and in winter.Barmasse’s feat, which saw him tackle 67 kilometers of climbing 7,200 meters in two days with skis and crampons, is proof that the Apennines themselves can represent a true mountaineering milestone.
